Makua Beach (Tunnels Beach)

Most visitors to Oahu never visit this beach, no tour buses go there. Most people who make the effort to drive to Oahu's remote leeward coast only get to Makaha Beach, a popular beach for surfing and big waves during the winter months.

Makua Beach is one of the most undeveloped and remote beaches on the island of Oahu. This near-deserted, never-bound white-sand beach is backed by the Waianae Mountain Range and the Makua Valley (hence the name of the beach). The rocky mountain seen from this beach is called Pōhaku Kula'ila'i, it is a sacred place in Hawaiian tradition.
