Sombrero Beach

Located on Marathon Key, Sombrero is one of the best beaches in the Florida Keys. The beach is long, wide and backed by palm trees. The sea view is sublime. The water is shallow, warm, and ideal for families with young children or those just looking to laze around and work on their tan.

This is one of the few beaches in the Florida Keys where you can walk along the beach for a good distance. The beach faces south but if the waves are a bit strong, another area of the beach faces west and offers protection from choppy water.

Sombrero Beach is also a good place for visitors with pets. It is one of the few beaches where dogs are allowed provided they are kept on a leash. The beach is in front of a large park with picnic tables, with sun shelters, showers, a foot-rinse station and restrooms. Some picnic sites have charcoal grills and power outlets for your electronic equipment.

Depending on the day, you might be able to join in an impromptu game of beach volleyball on the permanent courts set up in the sand. Just back from the beach is a walking path and a large grassy area, perfect for throwing a Frisbee or playing a game of soccer. Ample parking is also available.
